Revenue reached $3.1 billion between January and May, driven by a 21 percent year-on-year rise in visitors, the state-run Jordan News Agency reported, citing the Central Bank of Jordan. Spending by Jordanian expatriates increased by 30 percent year on year. European visitors spent 17 percent more annually, while combined expenditure by tourists from the US and other countries jumped 42 percent year on year. Tourism revenues rose by 18 percent year on year in May, reaching $630 million, the report said. Jordanian outbound tourism spending rose 11 percent annually in May to $158 million. For the January-May period, outbound travel spending increased by 13 percent year on year to $804 million. Tourism contributes an estimated 15 percent to Jordan’s GDP, with about three-quarters of it sourced from Arab visitors, including Jordanians living abroad.
