A total of 14,074 Omanis were employed in the public and private sectors through direct employment or replacement of expatriates, the state-run Oman News Agency said citing a ministry of labour statement. The ministry said that 6,963 Omanis were employed in the public sector out of a target number of 10,000, while 7,111 out of 16,000 received jobs in the private sector. In addition, 305 out of 2,000 Omanis completed the employment-linked training programme in the government sector, while 1,107 out of a target number of 7,000 completed a similar programme in the private sector. The ministry said it is determined to push forward with its plan to generate employment opportunities for citizens in various sectors and regulate the labour market. Last month, non-oil activity in Oman increased by almost 4 percent in the first quarter of the year, helping to prop up a decline in revenues from the sultanate’s energy sector. The GDP for the first three months of 2024 was up marginally by 0.8 percent year on year to OMR10.45 billion ($27 billion), according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
