Alstom proposes setting up two factories in Borg Al Arab city in Alexandria

The Egyptian cabinet has approved an investment plan by French train maker Alstom to set up an industrial complex in Alexandria.

Alstom proposes setting up two factories, one for producing components such as signals, panels and electrical control circuits, Egypt Today newspaper reported.

The second plant will manufacture mobile units for metro lines, trams, light rail transit, monorail and express trains.

The products of both factories will be exported to various countries, although the first units from the mobile unit factory will be for the sixth line of the Cairo metro.

The factories will be located in Borg Al Arab in Alexandria, which will aid in facilitating exports and ease imports of raw materials via Alexandria port.

The factories will cover an area of 125,453 sq m, with 36,421 sq m reserved for future expansions.

The project will provide 1,200 job opportunities for Egyptian engineers and technicians.

Egypt earlier this year inaugurated Tahya Misr terminal at the Port of Alexandria, which can handle 12 to 15 million tonnes of merchandise annually.
