Saudi Arabia reportedly awarded public contracts with a combined value of around SAR34 billion ($9 billion) in the first four months of 2025.

The government is also expected to award 10 other projects in May covering mainly construction and oil and gas, the Saudi Contractors’ Authority (SCA) said in its May bulletin.

About 79 percent of the 43 projects awarded involved electricity and water while the others covered oil and gas, construction, infrastructure and industry, it said.

A breakdown showed January was the busiest month for the number of awarded contracts, which stood at 15. The report showed 10 contracts were awarded in February, five in March and 13 in April.

April had the lion’s share of the project value, standing at around SAR13.8 billion, followed by February at SAR8.5, January at SAR6.6 billion and March at SAR5.4 billion.

The Saudi Electricity Company emerged as the largest project owner, with the value of its awarded contracts standing at SAR7.13 billion ($1.9 billion), according to SCA, which groups more than 100,000 contractors in the largest Arab economy.

In a previous report, SCA said the kingdom awarded 314 public projects worth around SAR 267.8 billion in 2024, the highest annual project value after the Covid pandemic in 2020.

The industry report said the surge was mostly in the value of projects covering energy, oil and gas, construction and infrastructure.

The report showed oil and gas deals accounted for nearly 41 percent of the total awarded contracts in the first quarter, with a value of SAR 27.3 billion ($7.28 billion).
