Bahri Logistics Centre is expected to be operational in the first half of 2025 and offer storage and handling capabilities with more than 80,000 pallet positions, 40,000 shelving units and an annual throughput exceeding 900,000 pallets, around 2,500 a day. The centre will be equipped to store reefer, insulated and dry containers, Bahri said. It will also provide container maintenance, repair, cleaning, bonded storage and haulage. No financial details were shared. In November 2023, Saudi Ports Authority, known as Mawani, and CMA CGM, a French shipping and logistics company, commenced building work on a logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port. Last week, Mawani said it had completed a SAR1 billion ($270 million) expansion of the port. The project to deepen and expand the northern container terminal in Jeddah, operated by the Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) company, will double capacity from 700,000 to 1.5 million sq m. Saudi Arabia is trying to increase port capacity to more than 40 million standard containers and its share of the trans-shipment market to 45 percent as part of its economic development plans. Mawani has signed several agreements to establish 11 logistics zones in the Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu. The total investment for these projects is nearing SAR4.2 billion.
