A 1 million sq m logistics park is planned for Dammam's port

Saudi Ports Authority, known as Mawani, and Saudi Global Ports, a Public Investment Fund-backed container terminal operator, have signed a contract to build a SAR1 billion ($266.59 million) logistics park at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.

The facility will cover more than 1 million sq m and is part of a plan by the state-owned Mawani to increase the number of logistics parks in the kingdom’s ports to 12.

The site will include warehouses and yards equipped to store and
handle dry and refrigerated goods. The park will also have a bonded and re-export area for sorting and distribution operations.

Mawani chairman Saleh Al Jasser said the agreement falls under both local and global private sector investments, supporting the role of the logistics sector in line with the country’s national transport and logistics strategy.

“The objective of these investments is to establish multiple high-performance logistics zones that will enhance the efficiency of the logistics sector, improve service quality, increase handling numbers and generate additional job opportunities.”

The expansion is expected to improve the kingdom’s position in the global logistics services performance index from its current ranking of 38th place to 10th.

Saudi Global Ports operates two container terminals at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.

Mawani has signed several agreements to establish 11 logistics zones in the Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu. The total investment for these projects is nearing SAR4.2 billion.
