Tech Work on Morocco’s 500MW data centre to start this year By Pramod Kumar June 16, 2025, 7:13 AM Unsplash+/Getty Morocco was selected due to its proximity to Europe and connection through multiple submarine optical cables A consortium led by South Korea’s Naver and US-based Nvidia will build an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre in Morocco to serve the Europe, Middle East and Africa (Emea) region. Other partners include London-headquartered Nexus Core Systems and Kenya-based Lloyd Capital, as reported by Business Korea newspaper. The consortium aims to construct a 500 megawatt (MW) renewable energy-based data centre in Morocco, given the country’s proximity to Europe and connection through multiple submarine optical cables. The first phase of the project will begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the construction of a 40MW AI supercomputing infrastructure equipped with Nvidia’s latest Blackwell GPUs by the end of the year. Morocco reports growth in power production Morocco aims to double EV production capacity Taqa to invest in Morocco’s energy and water security The data centre is expected to expand to a maximum of 500MW in stages. The consortium has signed a power supply contract with the Casablanca-listed Taqa Morocco Group. Data aggregator Statista estimates the data centre market revenue in Morocco to hit $746 million in 2025, growing at 5.3 percent annually to $917 million by 2029.
