Industry Ceer starts work on $1.3bn EV manufacturing complex By Pramod Kumar March 10, 2024, 8:20 AM Ceer Ceer breaks ground on its manufacturing complex at the King Abdullah Economic City Ceer, Saudi Arabia’s first electric vehicle brand, has awarded a SAR5 billion ($1.3 billion) contract to construct a manufacturing complex in King Abdullah Economic City. Local contractor Modern Building Leaders will build a facility spanning over one million sq m, with 530,000 sq m under its roof. The complex will include dedicated zones for every stage of vehicle production, including a press shop, body shop, paint shop, and general assembly. The complex will feature dedicated zones for logistics, waste management, warehouses, offices, water treatment system and a vehicle test track. The project is supported by partnerships with global industry leaders such as Dürr, Schuler, Siemens, ABB, and many more, Jim DeLuca, CEO of Ceer, said. Ceer, a joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Taiwan’s Foxconn, was launched to support the electric vehicle sector and contribute to the kingdom’s efforts to reduce emissions and address the impact of climate change. The EV maker will design, manufacture and sell a range of vehicles for consumers in Saudi Arabia and the wider Mena region, including sedans and sports utility vehicles. The first vehicles are scheduled to be available in 2025.
