Turkey’s unemployment rate falls for third straight quarter

The unemployment rate in Turkey has continued to fall in the third quarter of 2023 to 9.2 percent, down 0.5 percentage points quarter on quarter, the country’s statistical authority said.

The unemployment rate stood at 10 percent in the same quarter last year, Daily Sabah newspaper reported, citing Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) data.

The number of unemployed persons aged 15 and over declined by 161,000 quarter on quarter to 3.2 million in July-September.

The unemployment rate was estimated at 7.5 percent for men and 12.5 percent for women.

The youth unemployment rate for the 15-24 age group stood at 17.1 percent, down 0.7 percentage points from the prior quarter.
