Company executives break ground on the new agri terminals complex at Jebel Ali Port, which handles 73% of the UAE’s food and beverage trade by value

Global ports operator DP World has commenced construction on an AED550 million ($149.8 million) agriculture terminals facility at Jebel Ali Port, aiming to strengthen food security in the UAE.

The complex, developed in partnership with Adroit Overseas Canada and Al Amir Foods, will specialise in storing and processing various agricultural products, including pulses, grains, corn and soybeans.

Jebel Ali Port handles 73 percent of the UAE’s food and beverage trade by value. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in early 2025.

The facility will generate over AED1.2 billion in new international trade, aligning with the UAE’s “Operation 300 Billion” strategy. It is also expected to enhance bulk handling by 750,000 metric tonnes annually.

Spanning a quayside area of 100,000 sq m, the agri terminals will be Dubai’s largest multi-tenant facility for integrated agricultural processing and silo storage.

The facility will have a total storage capacity of 200,000 metric tonnes, developed in two phases, as well as processing and packaging facilities to handle 500,000 metric tonnes a year.

“The investment will support national efforts to strengthen food security and significantly expand our flourishing agricultural trade ecosystem in Dubai,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, group chairman and CEO, DP World.
