UAE and China non-oil trade reaches $32bn in H1 2022

Non-oil trade exchange between the UAE and China in the first half of 2022 reached AED 118.4 billion ($32.24 billion), WAM, the UAE state-owned news agency reported.

Imports stood at AED 102.7 billion, non-oil exports were valued at AED 5.5 billion, while re-exports hit AED 9.8 billion, showed data released by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre (FCSC).

The non-oil trade between the UAE and China increased by 78.5 percent from 2012 to 2021, totalling AED 223.5 billion by the end of 2021 compared to AED 125.1 billion in 2012.

The total value of the two countries’ non-oil trade exceeded AED 1.72 trillion, including imports valued at AED 1.53 trillion in the last 10 years.

Non-oil exports valued at AED 64 billion, while re-exports valued at AED 121 billion during the period.

The highest trade exchange in the last decade worth AED 195.6 billion was reported in 2017, up 15 percent compared to 2016.

Telecommunications devices topped the list of goods imported from China over the past year, amounting to AED70 billion, followed by data processing equipment at AED 23.6 billion, medical vaccines at AED 4.1 billion, display screens at AED 2.5 billion, and headphones and amplifiers at AED 2.5 billion.

In the list of top five goods exported to China, ethylene polymers came in the first place with AED 4 billion, followed by propylene polymers with AED 1.9 billion, rapeseed oil with AED 1.4 billion, copper scraps with AED 600 million, and residues of fatty oil extraction with AED 570 million.

In last year’s list of re-exports to China, telecommunications devices came in the first place with AED 8.3 billion, followed by data processing equipment with AED 2.09 billion, the report said.
