The UAE’s airports witnessed a 15 percent increase in air traffic during the Cop28 summit, held at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12.

Al Maktoum International Airport recorded the highest number of scheduled and unscheduled flights, such as private and business jets, on the first day of the conference, Saif Al Suwaidi, director-general of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) told the UAE’s state-run Wam news agency.

Day one saw the highest daily air traffic rate in the UAE’s civil aviation history, with 2,848 flights.

The GCAA did not specify if the 15 percent increase was compared to the same period last year or the period imediately before the start of the climate change conference.

“They launched a dedicated electronic platform to control air traffic and closely monitor incoming flights with air traffic administrations in neighbouring countries,” Al Suwaidi said.
