Hala, Dubai’s e-hailing taxi service on the Careem app, has reported a 36 percent annual growth in trips in the first six months of 2023 and a 21 percent rise in new users year on year.

Khaled Nuseibeh, CEO at Hala, said that the performance has been “tremendous” this year so far, with March 2023 being the busiest month so far this year.

“We saw a 60 percent increase in reliability score compared to the same month last year,” he added.

As part of the Roads & Transport Authority’s (RTA) plan to achieve an 80 percent e-hail adoption rate in the coming years, Hala is continuing to ramp up its operations with over 1,000 additional cars to be onboarded by the end of 2023.

The company recently signed an agreement with Dubai Taxi Corporation to onboard 600 cars that will be solely reserved for Hala users during evening peak hours starting September 2023.

In July, Hala introduced the Careem Pay digital wallet for its fleet of ride-hailing captains to aid in quicker and more frequent payments of tips and bonuses.

Hala has activated the payment solution for 17,000 “captains” (drivers) in the past month.

Since January, Hala Home (captain support centre) has trained over 15,000 captains and conducted 130 workshops and team activities.

Hala manages 21,000 captains on its platform with a fleet of 12,000 cars provided by its franchise partners.
