Foreign visitors arriving in Turkey rose 11.58 percent year on year in the first 10 months of 2023, according to a local media report.

Arrivals reached 44.2 million in the year to October compared to 39.6 million a year ago, Daily Sabah newspaper reported, citing tourism minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.

The overseas visitor number more than doubled from 2021.

In October, foreign arrivals rose 3.83 percent year on year to almost five million, according to culture and tourism ministry data. September saw a record high of 5.8 million arrivals.

The minister said that the country targeted $55.6 billion in tourism revenue for 2023 and was “very close” to the target despite the earthquakes in the south-eastern region in early February, the election in May, and the Israel-Gaza conflict.

The majority of holidaymakers are from Europe, mainly Germany and the United Kingdom, in addition to Russia, which faced Western restrictions following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
