Oil & Gas Oman strikes LNG deal with Mexico’s Amigo By Pramod Kumar May 5, 2025, 10:21 AM Oman News Agency The first LNG deliveries are expected to commence from Amigo’s export terminal in Mexico from the second quarter of 2028 Oman has signed a 15-year agreement with Mexico’s Amigo LNG to secure liquefied natural gas (LNG) as part of its strategy to diversfy its clean energy sources. Under the agreement, the government-backed OQ Trading will purchase 0.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG from Amigo’s export terminal in Guaymas, Mexico. Amigo LNG is a subsidiary of Singapore-based LNG Alliance. The deal aims to deepen cooperation between Latin America and the Gulf region in the energy sector. The first LNG deliveries are expected to commence in the second quarter of 2028. No financial details were given. Amigo LNG’s facility has a nameplate capacity of 7.8 mtpa and is being developed in line with Mexico’s state-funded Semar’s modernisation plan for the Port of Guaymas. This month Oman started constructing an LNG project in the northern port of Sohar, which its sponsors say is one of the lowest-emission plants in the world.
