Infrastructure Oman starts work on new economic zone By Pramod Kumar April 2, 2024, 5:31 AM Shutterstock Oman's new economic zone will span more than 20 sq km A consortium of Omani and Saudi companies has won a consultancy services contract for the first phase of Al Dhahirah governorate’s integrated economic zone. The contract was awarded by the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), state-run Oman News Agency reported. Names of the companies in the consortium were not disclosed. The remaining land in the zone will be developed as per the future expansion plans, covering all economic sectors. It further includes supervising the land port, road networks, electricity and communication services, water and irrigation networks, sewage and gas networks, solid waste management, administrative buildings and landscaping works. The first phase of the economic zone will cost around OR122 million ($315.5 million), ONA reported last February.
