The estimated cost of road projects in Oman stands at OR1 billion ($2.6 billion) for 2023, its minister of transport, communications and information technology Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali has said.

The ministry will focus on completing and constructing strategic road projects, boosting road efficiency and rehabilitation.

Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, under-secretary for transport, said the government plans to construct and complete road projects with a total length of more than 1,300 km, Oman’s Daily Observer reported.

Projects include the completion of Al Sharqiyah Expressway (260 km), the construction of the Herweb-Al Mazyunah-Mitan road (210 km) in Dhofar and the construction of roads in Wilayat Muqshin (170 km) in Dhofar.

Plans are on the anvil to expand nine existing roads, including the dualisation of the 437 km Adam-Thamrait Road, which connects the Ad Dakhiliyah and Dhofar governorates.

In addition, the ministry aims to launch a set of road maintenance initiatives, such as an application for reporting road damages and using modern road construction technologies.
