Energy Saudi Aramco discovers two natural gas fields By Pramod Kumar December 1, 2022, 7:05 AM REUTERS/Ahmed Yosri Prince Abdulaziz said these new discoveries increase Saudi Arabia’s natural gas reserves Saudi Aramco has discovered two new natural gas fields, Awtad and AlDahna, in the country’s eastern region, state news agency SPA reported, citing energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salma. Awtad was discovered southwest of the Ghawar field while AlDahna was discovered 230 kilometres southwest of Dhahran. Prince Abdulaziz said these discoveries will increase Saudi Arabia’s natural gas reserves, which will support the kingdom’s strategies and help realise the objectives of the liquid fuel displacement program, the report said. Recently, the energy minister denied reports that the kingdom is discussing a major increase in daily oil production with OPEC+ partners. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Saudi Arabia and others in OPEC+ are considering a 500,000 barrel per day (bpd) increase in output to coincide with a significant reduction in Russian oil availability on global markets. OPEC+ is next due to meet on December 4, with an EU embargo on Russian oil set to come into force the following day. The G7 is also in the latter stages of discussing a price cap on Russian oil imports, set to begin on December 5. In October 2021, Saudi Aramco announced plans to become carbon neutral by 2050, and it has since unveiled initiatives and projects supporting this pledge.
