The free zones – one for light and medium industries and logistical activities, and the other for business and trade – will be supervised by the government-owned Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, state-run Oman News Agency reported, citing a royal decree. The free zones will cover 52 million square metres, housing several logistical and industrial projects, said Salim bin Suleiman Al Thuhli, CEO of Khazaen Economic City. Among the projects is the Khazaen Land Port, the first land port in the sultanate that connects Khazaen with regional and international markets and a central market for vegetables and fruits. Al Thuhli said Khazaen Economic City will be one of the country’s largest public-private partnership projects. Furthermore, the royal decree grants the authority to sell residential and commercial lands and provides facilities for customs and tax exemptions in the economic city.
