Food prices went up 11.9 percent in August year-on-year, mainly due to the price rise of eggs, poultry, edible oils, fresh fruits and vegetables. The core inflation rate, excluding food and energy, climbed to 7.1 percent in August from 6.8 percent in July. Prices of free products (not regulated) grew 9.8 percent over one year. Consumer prices increased in August by 0.4 percent, from one percent in the previous month, driven by a rise in the cost of food and beverage products and educational products and services. In May, Tunisia’s central bank raised its key interest rate by 75 basis points to seven percent to tame inflation.
