Dubai Municipality has awarded contracts for the AED400 million ($108.9 million) Al Mamzar Beach development project, set to open by the end of this year.

The second phase focuses on upgrading the Al Mamzar Corniche beachfront and a focus on sustainable beach tourism, the UAE state-run Wam news agency reported.

Spread across 125,000 sq m and 80 m wide, Al Mamzar Corniche beach will include a women-only beach. This area will allow night swimming and offer amenities such as a sports club, shops, and children’s play areas.

The public beach will feature 1,000m of walking, running and cycling paths, linking Al Mamzar Creek Beach and Al Mamzar Park. It will also include green spaces, a 5,000 sq m events area, a 2,000 sq m skateboarding zone, play areas, restrooms and beach lounges.

Bader Anwahi, CEO of the public facilities agency at Dubai Municipality, said that the development of infrastructure projects aims to build a sustainable and attractive city offering advanced tourism and recreational facilities.

The project’s first phase, launched in June last year, covers a 275,000 sq m area with a beach width between 30 to 90 m. It is 45 percent complete.

Key features include a 200m pedestrian pontoon bridge over the creek, a 300m night swimming beach and five km of walkways and cycling tracks.
