Kuwait airport passenger traffic rises 26% to 15.6m

Total passenger movement at Kuwait International Airport rose 26 percent year on year to 15.6 million in 2023.

Arrivals reached 7.93 million passengers, while departures accounted for 7.68 million, the state-run Kuna news agency reported, citing Imad Al-Jalawi, acting director general of Civil Aviation

Aircraft traffic increased 23 percent to 128,584 last year, from 104,147 in 2022.

Air cargo traffic grew three percent year on year to 210 million kgs, with incoming freight movement totalling 170 million kgs.

Outgoing freight movement stood at 40.3 million kg during the same period.

In September 2023, Turkey’s Limak won a KD236 million ($764.87 million) project to build part of a new terminal at Kuwait International Airport, Reuters reported, citing to the Gulf state’s official gazette.

The $4.34 billion new airport terminal is expected to triple the capacity of Kuwait’s airport to 25 million passengers a year.
