Boeing looks at selling 150 jets to Riyadh Air

Boeing
The new carrier is looking for about 300 to 400 single-aisle jets in total

Boeing Co is looking at striking a deal to sell about 150 737 Max jetliners to Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Air.

The new carrier, wholly owned by the kingdom’s Public Investment Fund, is looking for about 300 to 400 single-aisle jets in total, Bloomberg News reported, citing informed sources.

European plane manufacturer Airbus may also claim a part of the order, it added.

Riyadh Air is expected to create more than 200,000 direct and indirect jobs and add $20 billion to the kingdom’s non-oil economy.

Riyadh Air will be run by aviation veteran Tony Douglas, who was previously group chief executive officer at Etihad Aviation Group.

The carrier’s first international flight will take off in early 2025, according to Douglas, who was formerly CEO of Etihad Airways.

The airline intends to connect Saudi Arabia to more than 100 destinations by 2030.

Boeing previously won another order from state-run Saudia and Riyadh Air for a combined 78 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, the fifth-largest commercial order by value in the plane maker’s history.
