A delegation from the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) enquiry mission held the first workshop to assess Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the World Expo 2030 in Riyadh as part of the BIE’s procedures to select the hosting country.

The workshop discussed the kingdom’s Expo 2030 bid and the added value of hosting the high-profile global exhibition in Riyadh, state-owned SPA reported.

During the workshop, Fahd Al-Rasheed, CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, said that Riyadh has the potential to host an “exceptional version” of the World Expo.

The delegation also met with finance minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan and reviewed the details of the kingdom’s plan to financially support the expo.

Al-Jadaan stated that the kingdom had witnessed economic and financial reforms in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 programme.

South Korea’s Busan and Ukraine’s Odesa are also bidding to host the 2030 event, according to BIE.

Dubai hosted the 2020 World Expo, which was delayed a year as a result of the pandemic.
