Visitors to Turkey jump 130% in March

The number of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey jumped 129.7 percent from a year earlier to 2.08 million in March, data showed on Friday, as the sector continued to recover from the impact of measures to combat the spread of coronavirus since 2020.

The arrivals compared with a level of 718,097 foreign visitors in March 2020. Turkey began closing borders and restricting activity in March 2020, when its first coronavirus cases were recorded.

In March 2021, when some coronavirus measures were still in place, Turkey hosted 905,323 foreign visitors, according to the data.

The number of foreign visitors arriving in Turkey soared 94.1 percent to 24.71 million last year, when coronavirus measures were eased compared to 2020.

Visitors from the United Kingdom increased by 947 percent annually in March and stood at 87,349 people while visitors from Ukraine increased by 30 percent in the same period and stood at 66,233 when compared to last year.
