Abu Dhabi technology group G42 has set up a subsidiary in London as part of its plan to build operations in Europe.

The new unit, G42 Europe & UK, follows announcements that the tech group will build data centres in France and Italy.

The European subsidiary will use G42’s network of supercomputers and data centres and its artificial intelligence capabilities to offer secure end-to-end AI services to sectors from financial services and healthcare to manufacturing and energy, the company said in a statement.

The unit will also collaborate with national and regional institutions to advance data-sovereignty initiatives and support the rollout of next-generation AI infrastructure across the continent.

GCC members have for decades focused on diversifying their economies away from hydrocarbons and using their oil revenues to invest in assets around the world. These goals have taken on extra urgency amidst escalating geopolitical tensions in the region, as a result of ongoing strikes between Iran and Israel.

G42 Europe & UK will be co-chaired by Omar Mir, a board member at World Wide Technology, and Marty Edelman, G42’s group general counsel. G42 is chaired by the UAE’s national security adviser, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Last month, during President Donald Trump‘s trip to the Gulf, UAE and US officials announced that the two countries would build a 5-gigawatt AI campus in Abu Dhabi.

In March G42 and US tech giant Nvidia launched a hyper-local weather forecasting system.

The UAE has stepped up its European investments this year, pledging up to $50 billion in France and $40 billion in Italy.
