Egypt will start exporting agricultural products to the Philippines after five years of negotiations, Reuters reported, citing the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture statement.

The first shipment of Egyptian citrus is expected to be exported during the current season.

Egyptian agriculture exports from January 1 to August 24, 2022, reached around 4.49 million tons, Egypt Today newspaper reported, citing Minister of Agriculture El Sayed El-Qusseir.

Ahmed El-Attar, head of the ministry’s Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, has affirmed that the most prominent Egyptian agricultural exports this year are citrus fruits, potatoes, onions, grapes, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, strawberries, beans, guavas, mangoes, garlic, and watermelons.

The total agricultural exports of citrus reached around 1.6 million tons, ranking first among Egyptian agricultural exports, followed by potatoes at 831,696 tons, the report said.

Last month, Greece’s foreign ministry said in a statement said Egypt will provide 5,000 seasonal workers to help meet the growing needs of its agricultural sector under a pilot scheme agreed by the two countries.

The deal could be a “guide” for future agreements signed by Greece and the European Union (EU) with third countries to combat illegal immigration.
