Qatar World Cup 2022 set to generate $6bn revenue

The World Cup Qatar 2022 CEO Nasser Al Khater says luxurious hotel options are selling for $5,478 a night

FIFA estimates the World Cup 2022 in Qatar will generate revenue of around $6 billion, the event’s chief executive officer Nasser Al Khater told the Qatar News Agency.

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 CEO said ticket sales have been strong, with Mexico vs. Argentina and Saudi Arabia vs. Argentina the top sellers.

The second phase of ticket sales concluded on August 16, with the next one scheduled to start in September.

The total number of tickets available was 3.2 million, a third of which was allocated to sponsors and carriers, the news agency reported.

The start date of the World Cup was recently brought forward one day to November 20, a decision the CEO said was done with the agreement of all designated bodies and approved by the FIFA Council, as well as Qatar and Ecuador, who will feature in the opening match.

He stated that moving the match one day early to Sunday instead of Monday was welcomed by the carriers and sponsors, giving it bigger momentum and high viewership potential.

With regards accommodation, Al Khater said a range of options were available, with some hotel rooms available for $80 a night, all the way up to more luxurious options that are selling for $5,478 a night.

Villas, hotel apartments, and camping sites are available, and prices are being updated regularly in light of the new supply of hotel rooms and apartments that have come online.
