Egypt's logistics corridors will link its Red Sea ports with those on the Mediterranean coast

Egypt is building seven integrated logistics corridors as part of its plan to become a regional centre.

The logistics corridors are under construction and will connect production facilities with ports, Egypt Today newspaper reported, quoting transport minister Kamel El Wazir.

The corridors are located in Sokhna/Alexandria, Arish/Taba, Cairo/Alexandria, Tanta/Mansoura/Dameitta, Gargoub/Salloum, Cairo/Aswan/Abu Simbel, and Safaga/Qena/Tartour, the report said.

These corridors will link the ports on the Red Sea with those on the Mediterranean coast.

The initiative is part of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s 2030 sustainable development plan, designed to establish Egypt as a regional hub for transport and logistics.

Last month, media reports said that Egyptian and Chinese officials were in discussions about setting up a Chinese industrial zone along the Mediterranean Sea, which aims to facilitate exports to Europe and America.

The Egyptian cabinet also approved the budget for the financial year 2024-25 in March, which includes ambitious targets of 4.2 percent growth, a 50 percent increase in private sector investment and a primary surplus of 3.5 percent.
