Turkey’s Progresiva Energy Investments has struck a deal with China’s Harbin Electric International to build a $600 million electricity storage facility, according to a media report.

The project will be one of Europe’s largest energy storage facilities, Daily Sabah newspaper reported, citing Progresiva’s vice president, Cevdet Yılmaz.

He said the initial phase, which will cost $375 million, is already underway, with $300 million secured from China through Habin Electric.

Sami Arslanhan, chairman of Kontrolmatik, a main shareholder of Progresiva, said the investment will be implemented in two phases.

The 1,000 MWh storage facility’s investment is estimated between $350 million and $375 million, while the 250 MW wind farm will require $250 million.

Habin Electric will be the main contractor for the project’s engineering, construction and procurement, the report said.

Kontrolmatik will handle electrical works, with its subsidiary Pomega as a subcontractor to purchase batteries.

The storage facility in Tekirdağ, north Marmara region in Turkey, will be commissioned in 2025, followed by the wind farm in 2027.
