Turkey’s finance minister Mehmet Şimşek is to embark on a second tour of Gulf countries as part of his government’s drive to attract foreign investment.

“Our meetings with investors will continue next week with visits to Gulf countries,” Daily Sabah newspaper reported, quoting a post by Şimşek on X, formerly Twitter.

Şimşek will visit Abu Dhabi, Doha and Riyadh this week to present his government’s new medium-term programme, in the hope of attracting sustainable investments that will generate employment.

During his visit to the UAE, the minister is expected to discuss the implementation of the initial phases of the $50 billion investment and financing agreements signed with Abu Dhabi during President Tayyip Erdoğan’s tour of the region in mid-July.

On a recent trip to France, Şimşek highlighted Turkey’s economic outlook and policies during talks with the country’s biggest business association, followed by a conference with funds and bank executives overseeing assets worth €4 trillion ($4.2 trillion).

The finance minister also held talks with International Energy Agency president Fatih Birol to discuss prospects in the global energy market, the newspaper said.

Şimşek is planning an East Asia trip before the end of the year.
