Perfumes drive Dubai Duty Free sales higher to $1.74bn in 2022

Online sales accounted for 2.54 of the overall sales tally for 2022 for Dubai Duty Free

Perfume contributed AED1.134 billion ($310.66 million), or 18% of total sales of AED6.339 billion ($1.74 billion) for Dubai Duty Free in 2022.

Overall sales rose 78 percent year-on-year, Dubai Duty Free said in a statement. The operation recorded over 17.3 million sales transactions throughout the year, an average of 46,912 transactions per day, while 47.302 million units of merchandise were sold.

The perfume segment was followed by liquor (AED1.021 billion), gold (AED629.3 million), cigarettes and tobacco (AED562.4 million), and electronics (AED502.2 million).

Online sales accounted for 2.54 percent of the overall sales tally for 2022 and reached AED161.2 million.

Sales in departures across the operation reached AED5.57 billion, representing 88 percent of the total annual amount, while arrivals sales hit AED573.4 million and made up nine percent.

In September, Dubai Duty Free announced that it had recalled nearly 2,000 staff who were laid off during the global pandemic amid the continuing recovery in the regional aviation industry.
