Prince Abdulaziz said these new discoveries increase Saudi Arabia’s natural gas reserves

Saudi Arabia’s minister of energy Prince Abdulaziz bin has announced three new projects, which will improve the kingdom’s national and regional climate action, Saudi Gazette reported.

Speaking at the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) forum held on the sidelines of Cop27 in Sharm El Sheikh, the minister said that the kingdom is establishing the circular carbon economy (CCE) knowledge hub.

This hub will promote regional collaboration in CCE technologies and share the information, best practices and learnings to support the region-wide implementation of nationally determined contributions.

In addition, the country is working with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) to launch a regional center to advance emissions reduction.

The centre will encourage regional collaboration to accelerate emissions reduction and facilitate the implementation of the CCE.

It will also be a new platform to represent regional voices, influencing global narratives and designing a roadmap to lower emissions, the newspaper said.

Finally, Saudi Arabia and UNFCCC will host the next Mena Climate Week in 2023. In the lead-up to Cop28 in the UAE, this event will bring together key regional and global stakeholders to explore challenges and opportunities, reveal innovation and solutions, and encourage climate action.
