Etihad Airways will double its routes and frequencies to Africa next year as part of its global expansion plan.

The Abu Dhabi-headquartered airline has launched three new African routes in the past two months.

The national carrier serves four African destinations: Johannesburg, South Africa; Cairo, Egypt; Mahe, Seychelles; and Casablanca, Morocco.

It will also resume flights to Nairobi, Kenya, on December 15, followed with the launch of new routes to Tunis, Tunisia; Algiers, Algeria; and Al Alamein, Egypt, next year.

“We are expanding our frequencies, including boosting both Johannesburg and Casablanca to daily services from next summer,” said the airline’s chief revenue and commercial officer Arik De.

“Etihad serves four cities with 39 frequencies a week. By next summer, this will increase to 50 weekly frequencies to six cities. We will reach 57 frequencies a week to eight cities by this time next year,” De said.

The airline recently announced 10 new global destinations, including Tunis and Algiers, and plans to announce at least 10 more each year by 2030.

“These will include new cities in Africa, and our goal is to make all of these flights daily.”

Etihad has signed codeshare and interline partnerships with several African airlines, including Airlink South Africa, Air Seychelles, Royal Air Maroc, and EgyptAir.
