The growth from 32 million passengers in 2024 is expected as a result of the 2030 Fifa World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, Morocco World News reported, quoting transport and logistics minister Abdessamad Kayouh. Last month, the government announced plans to invest MAD42 billion ($4.1 billion) in airport expansion by 2030. The investments will be directed to expanding airports at Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Marrakesh, Fez, Tetouan and Agadir. He said that the development would improve domestic connectivity by linking Morocco’s 12 regions through airports, adding that the government has set up a subsidy scheme to offer preferential rates to travellers. In December 2024, prime minister Aziz Akhannouch said Morocco aims to double its passenger capacity from 38 million to nearly 80 million by 2030. The government has set a target of 17.5 million annual visitors by 2026, increasing to 26 million by 2030, when the World Cup takes place.
