Renewable Energy Masdar to build floating solar plants in Indonesia By Pramod Kumar April 14, 2025, 9:29 AM Masdar Darmawan Prasodjo, president director of Persero, and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, sign the solar plant agreements Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) is to start building floating solar power projects this year in Indonesia, southeast Asia’s largest energy market, the company said in a statement. The UAE renewables company signed two agreements with PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, during a state visit by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to the UAE, the statement said. No financial details were disclosed The companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a floating solar power plant at the Jatigede Dam reservoir in West Java, after the UAE company secured the lowest tariff in the Hijaunesia 2023 bidding programme. Masdar and Persero also signed an agreement to explore the potential expansion of Masdar’s 145 megawatt Cirata floating photovoltaic power plant, the first phase of which began operations in November 2023. The plant currently generates renewable energy to power 50,000 homes, while displacing 214,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Masdar opened an office in Jakarta in 2021 to further strengthen links with regional players. The company has increased its global renewable energy portfolio in the past two years, increasing overall capacity by 150 percent to 51 gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2024, from 20GW in 2022. It has developed and partnered in projects in over 40 countries, with plans to increase its renewable energy portfolio capacity to 100GW by 2030.
