Renewable Energy Abu Dhabi seeks developer for new wind power project By Pramod Kumar October 16, 2024, 8:46 AM Unsplash/Vitor Paladini Ewec says the Al Sila wind project will generate clean electricity to power 36,000 homes Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec) has invited expressions of interest (EoIs) for the development of a wind farm in the Al Sila region. On completion, the 140 megawatt (MW) greenfield renewable energy independent power project will more than double the existing wind generation capacity in the UAE. The Al Sila wind project will generate clean electricity to power 36,000 homes, offsetting 190,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. It will also directly contribute to Abu Dhabi’s 2035 clean energy target of sourcing 60 percent of electricity from renewable and clean sources. The new wind project will increase the UAE’s wind generation capacity to 240MW. No financial details were given. Developers sought for Abu Dhabi’s Khazna solar plant Abu Dhabi to generate 50% power from green sources by 2030 Costs versus profits in the energy transition debate Ewec chief executive Othman Al Ali said that the new project will more than double wind generation capacity in the UAE. The wind project involves the development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance and ownership of the wind farm and associated infrastructure. The EoI submission deadline is November 5. Ewec will issue a request for qualification outlining pre-qualification criteria and the bidding process after reviewing EOIs. Ewec invited EoIs to participate in a new greenfield solar project in the Al Dhafra region this month.
