Dar Global to build new Trump tower in Dubai

The Trump real estate brand got another boost in the Gulf on Thursday as developer Dar Global announced it would build a Trump Tower in Dubai.

The London-listed overseas arm of Saudi Arabia’s largest developer Dar Al Arkan said further details about the agreement with the Trump Organization, such as the exact location and construction timeline, would follow before the end of the year.

The high-rise will house a Trump hotel, as well as branded residential units and a variety of “opulent” amenities yet to be disclosed, according to a press release.

Dar Global’s dealings with the Trump Organization in the Gulf already span branded villas in Muscat, Oman, and a recently announced tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The controversial former US president and current Republican presidential hopeful survived an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, only weeks after being criminally convicted of falsifying corporate records to hide a hush payment to a porn star before the 2016 elections. His criminal conviction is a first for a US head of state.

Ziad El Chaar, Dar Global’s CEO, told AGBI in June that his firm exclusively focuses on profitability in its affairs with the Trump Organization.

“I was in the US last week and the 18 golf clubs of Trump in the US and the three between the UK and Ireland are among the best-performing such businesses in the world,” El Chaar said at the time. 

“This is what we’re after: the golf clubs, the hotels, the association with Trump for that brand. We’re not associated with politics.”

Upon announcing the new Trump Tower Dubai on Thursday, El Chaar said he expects the project to “enhance our track record of creating bespoke landmark properties in the region and contribute to elevating Dubai’s skyline”.

Eric Trump, the Trump Organization’s executive vice president, said his group looks forward “to bringing our vision to life in one of the world’s most dynamic cities”.

Dubai is already home to a Trump-branded golf course.
