Botas and TotalEnergies executives sign the long-term LNG supply deal in the presence of Turkish energy and natural resources minister Alparslan Bayraktar

Turkish energy company Boru Hatları ile Petrol Taşıma AŞ (Botas) has signed a deal to purchase 16 billion cubic metres (bcm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from France’s TotalEnergies.

The 10-year deal will start from 2027, Anadolu Agency reported, citing Turkish energy and natural resources minister Alparslan Bayraktar.

The deal offers flexible and competitive terms, which will significantly lower gas prices in Turkey in the long term, he said.

No financial details were given.

This month Botas agreed to buy up to four bcm of LNG from British energy major Shell. In May, the company signed a contract with US-based ExxonMobil for an annual supply of 3.2 bcm of LNG.

The minister said that Turkey ranks as Europe’s fourth-largest natural gas market, with an annual consumption of 50-55 bcm.

Ankara is focused on renewing contracts related to existing pipelines and securing gas from the most competitive and affordable sources, Bayraktar added.
