Turkey’s electric vehicle (EV) maker Togg is looking to expand manufacturing to Asian countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan, President Tayyip Erdoğan has said.

Pakistan has already expressed interest in producing Togg vehicles, Daily Sabah reported citing the president.

Erdoğan has given Toggs to each of the leaders of the three nations, saying it is important to introduce the vehicle in these countries following which production or joint investment opportunities can be explored, the newspaper reported.

Togg aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles, with plans to increase this to 175,000 once its plant in Bursa in northwestern Turkey reaches full capacity. The brand’s long-term goal is to manufacture one million vehicles by 2030.

Ankara has announced that tariffs on imported Chinese conventional and hybrid vehicles will rise from 40 to 50 percent as of January 1.

However, Chinese automotive producer BYD has been given an exemption from the new levy.

The company is in the process of investing $1 billion in developing a production facility for electric vehicles (EVs) in the province of Manisa in Turkey’s Aegean region, with a capacity of 150,000 vehicles annually.
