The merger will produce a combined 2,088m of berthing space, allowing more than one ultra-large container vessel simultaneously at both terminals

DP World, a global port operator, and Istanbul-headquartered Evyap Group have merged two ports on the Marmara Sea to create a new logistics centre in Turkey.

The merger followed regulatory approval from the Turkish Competition Authority, the UAE state-run Wam news agency reported. No financial details were released.

Evyapport, located in the port of Izmit on the Asian side of the Bosporus waterway, is the first private port operator to offer intermodal transportation.

Intermodal transportation is when cargo is loaded into containers and can be transported seamlessly between trucks, trains and cargo ships.

The rebranding will introduce DP World Evyap Yarımca and DP World Evyap Körfez as the new names for these maritime gateways.

The merger will produce a combined 2,088m of berthing space, allowing more than one ultra-large container vessel to be berthed simultaneously at both terminals.

The total annual container handling capacity will exceed 2 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), with the integrated operation expanding to include project and heavy-lift cargo services.

Furthermore, DP World Evyap will have access to road and rail links, expediting turnaround times.

DP World Group chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said the partnership in Turkey, which is among the important markets, will support its vision to lead global trade.
