A tender for the first phase of the Al Mudhaibi Industrial City project in North Al Sharqiyah governorate has been issued by Oman’s Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn).

The tender, aimed at specialised companies in Oman and Saudi Arabia, covers the development of around 2.5 square kilometres of basic services.

This includes road networks, water, sewerage, lighting, security fences and the installation of surveillance devices, the Oman News Agency (ONA) said.

The initial phase of the complex will have administrative offices, private car parks, truck entrance and exit tracks, and a service building that will house the management teams of the industrial city.

Another unit will be provided for Madayn’s Masar Service Centre, which provides services for investors, the ONA said.

Mahmoud Yahya Al Dhuhli, governor of North Al Sharqiyah, said Al Mudhaibi Industrial City will have all the necessary units to serve the mining, food and tourism sectors, as well as those industries whose raw materials are available near the governorate.

Sheikh Saud Mohammed Al Hinai, Wali of Al Mudhaibi, said that the city has an area of about nine sq km, of which one third will be allocated to commercial and industrial sectors during the first phase.

He said the industrial city offers several investment incentives, including tax exemptions, 100 percent free ownership of projects by non-Omanis and renewable lease contracts extending to 30 years.

Al Mudhaibi, located inland and around 160 kilometres south of Muscat, is home to around 70,000 people.

Local raw materials include marble, limestone and gabbro rock, which can be used in road construction or as “black granite” for kitchen countertops or monuments.

Al Mudhaibi Industrial City is one of 10 industrial cities managed and operated by Madayn, which is owned by the Omani government.

Madayn reported a total investment volume of OMR7.6 billion ($19.7 billion) in the first half of this year. It said investment applications in its industrial cities grew 30 percent compared to the same period last year.

Strong non-oil sector growth is continuing to help Oman’s economy expand. Manufacturing, agriculture and construction were the main drivers behind the 4.2 percent rise in the sultanate’s non-oil sector in the second quarter this year, statistics released by Oman’s National Centre for Statistics and Information show.
