ADQ said its management and operation of Abu Dhabi's toll and parking systems "will help generate sustainable financial returns"

The Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund ADQ has taken over the management, operation and development of the emirate’s toll and parking systems.

The move intends to provide high-quality services to customers and generate sustainable financial returns, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said in a statement.

The Darb and Mawaqif – the toll and parking systems, respectively – will benefit from being added to ADQ’s transport and logistics portfolio.

Their operations will not be affected by the transition to ADQ, as the regulatory supervision roles will remain under state-run Abu Dhabi Mobility.

Darb, operational since 2021, manages eight toll gates in the UAE capital, which aims to alleviates congestion and promote the use of public transportation. The system was set up to build smart mobility infrastructure.

Mawaqif was established in 2009 to provide motorists with structured public parking facilities in Abu Dhabi. The system is fully digitalised, offering mobile phone payment and is integrated in the Darb smart application.

The inclusion of Darb and Mawaqif is expected to generate sustainable financial returns, said Mansour AlMulla, deputy group CEO of ADQ.
