Energy Oman to expand LNG output with new facility By Pramod Kumar July 29, 2024, 3:51 AM Oman News Agency Oman's new LNG project is expected to be completed and operational by 2029 Oman is building a new liquefied natural gas facility to expand its natural gas exploration and production. It will be built next to the existing Qalhat LNG complex, with an estimated production capacity of 3.8 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa), the state-run Oman News Agency reported. The facility will increase the sultanate’s LNG production to 15 million mtpa. Energy minister Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi said Oman was working to support the available infrastructure and resources to respond to the increasing demand for clean energy sources. The project is expected to be completed and operational by 2029. In May state-backed Oman LNG signed an agreement with Turkey’s Botas Petroleum Pipeline Corporation to supply one million mtpa of LNG for 10 years. The company also agreed in November last year to deliver 1 million metric tonnes per annum of LNG to British oil and gas major BP.
