Oman LNG

Oman LNG Overview

Oman LNG was established by royal decree in 1994 and founded with a shareholders’ agreement involving the Government of Oman and international partners including Royal Dutch Shell and Total.

Oman LNG produces and sells liquefied natural gas (LNG) and its by-product natural gas liquids (NGLs).

Oman LNG operates in liquefying, storing, transporting and marketing Oman’s natural gas and delivering it to customers.

It runs three liquefaction trains at its site in Qalhat near Surn, with a total capacity of 10.4 million tonnes per year, and its liquefaction plant is located on the coast in the South Sharqiyah governorate.

In 2013 Oman LNG officially integrated with Omani company Qalhat LNG.

The company announced in July 2024 that it will build a new LNG facility next to its existing Qalhat LNG complex, with an estimated production capacity of 3.8 million metric tonnes per annum.

The government of Oman is the majority owner of Oman LNG, with a 51 percent share. Other shareholders include Shell, which owns 30 percent, TotalEnergies, which owns over 5.5 percent and Mitsubishi, which owns over 2.7 percent.
