National Bank of Bahrain Overview

National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) was the first local bank in Bahrain. It has a nationwide network of around 25 branches and more than 4,000 points of sale terminals. There are also branches in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh.

Bahrain’s Mumtalakat Holding Company holds a 49 percent stake and the country’s Pension Fund Commission has 6.24 percent.

In October 2024 NBB launched a bitcoin-pegged structured investment product, targeting growing demand for cryptocurrency among institutional investors in the Gulf.

A merger between NBB and Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) is expected to be completed in 2025.

Subsidiaries include Bahrain Islamic Bank, Benefit Company and Bahrain Commercial Facilities Company.
