Egyptair

Egyptair Overview

Egyptair is the state-owned flag-carrier of Egypt. Based at Cairo International Airport, the airline operates passenger and freight flights to more than 80 destinations across over 50 countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Egyptair began operations in 1932, the seventh carrier in the world and the first in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Although wholly owned by the Egyptian government, special legislation allows it to operate independent of government interference.

Egyptair owns Egyptair Express and Air Sinai, and also has stakes in Air Cairo (60 percent) and Smart Aviation Company (20 percent).

In 2008 Egyptair joined the Star Alliance network, and the following year it announced a joint venture – the Civil Aviation Finance and Operating Leases (CIAF-Leasing) – with Aviation Capital Group (ACG) and other Egyptian private and public shareholders.

In 2025 Egyptair received EGP 20 billion ($39 million) from Egypt’s finance ministry to expand, with plans to add 125 aircrafts to its fleet over the next five years.
