Company Insights Besix Construction Besix Overview Besix is a multi-national contractor, operating in more than 25 countries across the world. It is 50 percent owned by the Egyptian construction major Orascom and 50 percent owned by Belgian nationals. Besix was founded in 1909 by the Stulemeijer family under the name Société Belge des Bétons (SBB). Originally helping to reconstruct Belgian public infrastructure after the First World War, it first expanded into other European countries, and then across the world including the Middle East. In 2004 a number of SBB managers, backed by Orascom, carried out a leveraged management buyout. Following this, the group was delisted from the stock market and renamed Besix Group. Notable construction projects include the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the European Parliament buildings in Brussels and the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza. It was further chosen to build the planned Guggenheim Museum in Abu Dhabi. Besides construction Besix offers services in real estate development (mainly in Western Europe) and concessions and assets in Europe and the Middle East.
