Al Bateen, Yas Island and Khalifa Port have been identified as locations for developing vertiports in Abu Dhabi after 14 potential sites were accessed.

A detailed feasibility study has been submitted to the Abu Dhabi government following discussions with more than 34 government entities, according to a joint statement from LODD, an Abu Dhabi-based AI-powered drone technology company, and London-headquartered Skyports Infrastructure.

A vertiport is a micro-scale airport for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.

The three vertiports, the design of which were released, will accelerate cargo and passenger movement and improve logistics delivery through autonomous vehicles.

In April 2024, Abu Dhabi unveiled the first operational vertiport for VTOLs.

State-run AD Mobility will regulate the advanced air mobility sector in Abu Dhabi by working with the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

Last October Archer signed an agreement with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office, the UAE’s largest sovereign wealth fund, to set up a manufacturing centre in Abu Dhabi.

In March 2024, AGBI recorded that flying cars could cut the commute between Dubai and Abu Dhabi to 30 minutes next year after a deal between Archer Aviation of the US and the UAE’s Falcon Aviation.
