Earlier this month, India and Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the energy field, including grid connectivity. Connecting India’s power grid with Saudi Arabia and the UAE will help India supply power to Europe as the European grid will be connected to the grid in the West Asian region, Mint, an Indian financial daily, reported citing the minister. In June, India and the UAE discussed connecting their grids through undersea cables under the ‘one sun, one world, one grid’ initiative, the Economic Times newspaper reported, citing a government official. “Solar power can be traded between the two countries because of the time difference,” the unnamed official said. Bilateral relations between India and the UAE in the energy space have been strong but confined to hydrocarbons. However, they have extended to renewables, another unnamed official said.
